My son and I were starving after a trip to the theater one afternoon, and so we decided to take a chance on this new place. We were seated and noticed there were no customers there. Understandable, the place is new, and it takes time for word of mouth to spread and to build a steady customer base. No problem. So, the server, a rather nervous young girl who couldn't have been day over 15 brings us our chips and salsa, and I ask for quacamole. It never came. She came by and said she was leaving, but that the owner was right over there and would be taking care of us. Ok. So the owner comes over, very friendly, asking if there is anything that he can do for us, if we are ready to order, etc. I said we were not ready to order yet, we just sat down 2 minutes ago. I asked him to please bring us some quacamole. It was rotten and saltless. But the chips and salsa were very good. So I perused through the menu and wanted a chile rellano combo plate, but I read that the chile rellanos there were the omelete-style rellanos which I cannot stand. ... And I could not help but notice that the owner was standing not 10 feet from our table, just standing there... hands clasped in front of him... staring at us. I kept thinking that he would just go away, but nope. He just stood there staring at us. I finally asked... "Uh, is everything ok??" He said yes, everything was fine. Then he continued to just stand there staring at us!!! I totally lost my appetite, I was seriously wierded out. My son ordered a super burrito, and after the man took the order, I think he got the hint finally that he was making us seriously uncomfortable. My son soon got his burrito and he said it was delicious. It looked good and smelled great, but I just couldn't bring myself to eat. I was so hungry, that I had to stop somewhere after and grab something to eat because I was so damn uncomfortable there. Needless to say, I will NEVER come back.

My husband and I are passing through and wanted a VEGAN lunch. Had a great vegetable burrito with rice and whole beans. It was very good and lots of food! Great service too.

New owners. Place is cleaned up and the food was great. Got the lunch special chimichanga yesterday. Salsa with the chips was good, smooth and crisp. Chimichanga was cooked well with flavorful shredded beef. I will be back for round two. It was lunch and no one was in so the service was super speedy. But I predict they will get a good lunch rush once word gets out it's open again with new owners.

Awesome food, great service! I got the chicken Mexican style and was pleasurably surprised, large portion, spicy and very delicious!! Just what we needed after a long day of traveling.

We thoroughly enjoyed out meals, chips were warm and the salsa had the right kick. The four of us ordered a different meal for lunch and we loved it.

Not authentic Mexican food. Keep driving - go to the next one, anywhere. Unless you like soggy tacos and salsa that tastes like oregano.

First time in Coos Bay! We (4 people) stopped at this restaurant and ordered different dishes. - 2 Carne Asada - it was just perfect and that's what I personally had! - 1 tilapia (a whole fried fish) - my friend didn't really like it and says it wasn't cooked well/ poor fish quality! - 1 steak fajitas - he says it was good and above average - the sauce was perfect! The waiter was really nice and polite!

Mexican food is supposed to taste good but this place had a combination of a funny taste in the refried beans and a plainer taste than I get at other Mexican restaurants for the rest of the meal's portions. Neither my friend or I could finish the refried beans. You do get plenty of food on the plate though. Service was pleasant from the young blonde lady but rather gruff from the older male. Hey, you're in the hospitality business, not the hospital food business...LOL! The interior was clean but the clientele was scarce. One party left when we came in during the lunch hour and one came in. Considering this was a summer day in downtown Coos Bay, that has to count as a strikeout for this restaurant. What else is missing: No little dessert treat and no spicy garnish like we get at Margarita's, which is where we're regulars when it's Mexican food time. Today after seeing a few good Yelps we went to try Pueblo Nuevo and found ourselves wondering why we did. Don't wonder, just wander into some other place and dine.

So I went in here last weekend with my boyfriend because we had a crazy hankering for Mexican food. Unfortunately that craving was not fulfilled. We should have realized when we walked in. The restaurant was almost empty during the prime Saturday dining hours and then we got hit with an overwhelming unpleasant aroma. I cannot exactly place my finger on what it was but we didn't want to be rude so we decided to just order dinner and deal with it. The waitress was friendly and pleasant so there was no problem there. I ordered a chicken burrito (simple enough) and my boyfriend ordered the steak taco dinner. Our food came to the table and the waitress warned us that our plates were hot. Now I worked in the restaurant industry as a chef for almost 10 years and because of that I have a very low sensitivity to heat but this plate was so hot I couldn't even move it over a few inches to get it closer to me. Plates should never be in front of a customer that hot. It's just dangerous. It's a simple fix. Place a plate under the hot plate that is not the temperature of molten lava. I looked at my boyfriends tacos and the tortillas were completely soggy. At first I thought it was saturated in grease and then when I tried to pick one up I realized they were just completely raw. It was raw wet masa and made them literally impossible to pick up without everything falling out of the bottom. The steak was not seasoned but tasted sweet. I don't want sweet tacos. I tried a bite of my burrito which was not a burrito. A burrito can be picked up and consumed in my opinion. A flour tortilla that's just stuffed with chicken, rolled and open on other sides is not a burrito in my eyes. It's a giant enchilada. I moved on and took a bite and was just so very disappointed. The chicken tasted like the meat was braised in a can of beef stew and beef broth. The rice was old and tasted off. I literally had two bites and could not eat any more. I never do that but really the food was inedible. The waitress came back to ask how things were and I told her that I didn't want the burrito and that it was bad and that it just tasted off. She did not offer anything else or try to fix the situation in any way. My boyfriend processed to finish the steak out of his tacos and left everything else because it was just inedible. She didn't ask him if he enjoyed his food or if she could get him anything else even though he only consumed about 10% of what was on his plate. Then we were both charged for our complete meals. The waitress didn't come and try to fix the situation and as a matter of fact ignored our table completely after I returned my meal. No manager came by to try and rectify the situation. This is just bad customer service. We will not be returning.

I joined Yelp just to leave this review. The place was very clean. The waitress was excellent. The chips were perfect. I ordered chorizo con huevos when I could not find a chorizo burrito on the menu. I ordered double rice because beans....well...you know....the rice was excellent but no chorizo...instead I was given ground beef mixed with eggs...onion...tomatoes etc. It was 5:30 pm on a Tuesday night and I was there only customer! I pointed out to the waitress that it was ground beef instead of chorizo and she said she would let the cook know. I paid for the food and left. I will not be back.

I came here on my lunch one week day and I ordered a lunch special beef burrito..like previous reviewers said the place was empty and it was tourist season. This was odd to begin with. The owner was serving and his demeanor was pretty creepy. He was however real attentive and nice. The salsa and chips were amazing but my burrito was small and tasted strange. I did not much like it compared to other places in town. The service is great but the food is lacking somewhat.

I'm normally a person who cleans my plate when I got out to eat. I like to eat lots of food and normally enjoy a good Mexican style meal. I did not finish my meal at this restaurant and was glad to be on my way for a stroll in downtown Coos Bay. The beans, rice, enchilada and tamale all tasted and looked the same. The odor from the cooking oil made me recoil when my nose got too near the plate. There were no tortillas with the meal. Next time I want Mexican food I'll go to Margarita's and get an excellent meal which includes tortillas and even a small dessert.

I noticed that this restaurant had new ownership and decided to take my family to try it out. I will be the first to say I am very picky with Mexican food and I always try to find the best in a bad experience so I will say that the dish that I ultimately ended up ordering (after countless times being told "we are out of that" seriously a Mexican food restaurant out of tamales!!!) was not bad in taste but not memorable because the rest of the trip was so bad that I can't even remember what I ordered. I went with 3 other people and I was the only one who actually ate more than a couple bites. I remember thinking that the menu items did not seem to sound like real Mexican food. However the biggest problem I had in my experience was that the waiter basically sat in a booth near us and just watched us the whole time. It was creepy. Yes we were the only customers but seriously there was no need to sit and watch us eat. I don't normally only give a restaurant one shot but the waiter watching us creeped me out so much that I will never go back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
